It is not uncommon to see moose in southeast Idaho and we enjoy sharing our moose photos here at the Pocatello Field Office. In Idaho you find the Shiras moose which is the smallest subspecies of moose in North America. A mature Shiras bull moose can weigh 800 pounds.
Crepuscular rays: Dramatic columns of sunlight radiate from the sky You may have heard of this beautiful phenomenon under a variety of different names: God rays, angel stairs, ropes of Maui, Jacob’s ladder, fingers of God — just to name a few. While many of the names possess obvious spiritual inspiration, “crepuscular” (which is derived from the Latin word for “twilight”) refers to the tendency for the rays to appear during dawn and dusk.
Don’t stress over not hitting a weekly mileage total or having a few blank days in your calendar. Improvement isn’t about hitting a big workout or how many miles you can cram into a week. It’s about logging month after month, of healthy, consistent training.
The Wilderness Society recently published Desert showcase: A look at America’s desert wilderness areas, a great article about the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act that features 11 “stunning American desert wilderness areas.”

MARATHON MYTH 2: You’re nipples will bleed. STATUS: False
My nipples never produced the red juice. I have heard that this is more common for guys as their nipples rub and chafe against their shirts as they run. Women have the protection of sports bras, so this is less likely to happen. However, I never experienced bloody nipples nor have I seen any male at any race I have had the pleasure of running bleeding through his shirt in the nipple region. I also have never said nipple so many times in my life. Nipple.
Things you do not see every day: An otter preys on a alligator at Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge in Florida. The otter eventually pulled the alligator up on the bank and proceeded to consume it, as evidenced by crunching noises. They were no longer visible at that point, but the alligator was done resisting when dragged out of the water. Despite their disarmingly cute appearance, otters are the apex predator of many freshwater habitats.
